Keyboardists and sound designers after a big, expressive performance rig will find plenty to love here. The pack starts with a serious polyphonic synth, gives it extra headroom, then adds the two things that make a keyboard feel alive on stage: hands-on pitch expression and an effect that turns a single chord into an entire atmosphere. Every piece is chosen to be played, tweaked and pushed, so the focus stays on texture, movement and performance. It's a setup that rewards exploration from the first note.
At the centre sits the UDO Audio Super 8, a 16-voice, bi-timbral analog-hybrid synth with two independent signal chains, each with its own effects. The 61-note semi-weighted keybed adds polyphonic aftertouch, so chords respond to every change in pressure, while the hands-on panel, 8×8 modulation matrix and 64-step sequencer keep sound design fast and fun. The included 4-Voice Upgrade Kit lifts polyphony to 20 voices, up from 16, matching the Super Gemini, and installs at home with no soldering required.
Two additions complete the performance side. The UDO RBN-1 Performance Ribbon Controller plugs into an expression pedal input and, with the Super 8, uses UDO's intelligent pitch expression to bend only the notes you're holding, leaving sustained sounds and reverb tails alone. The Eventide Blackhole adds cosmic reverb with Infinity and Freeze modes, a Gravity control for inverse decay and a Line Level switch for synths. Freeze a chord, then play over the top.
Together, it's a rig for players who want a deep, playable synth backed by expression and effects that respond in real time. The Super 8 provides the voices, the ribbon shapes the pitch, and the Blackhole stretches the result into space. Plug in, dial up a patch and start building sounds that move.
