Picture this: a gutsy pedal builder hurls his modded creation onto a concert stage mid-show, hoping country superstar Brad Paisley might give it a go. That bold move by Brian Wampler paid off spectacularly when Paisley's tech grabbed the pedal, loved what he heard, and passed it on to Brad himself. From that moment, Paisley became a devoted Wampler user, incorporating pedals like the Ego, Underdog and Faux Analog Echo into his rig.
Years later, Paisley's tech Chad approached Wampler with a challenge: Brad needed the perfect overdrive for recording and touring, but his requirements were demanding. The pedal had to stay clean yet get crunchy with serious beef, maintain fluid tones for solos, add subtle hair to the signal, and deliver crushing gain without sacrificing tonality. Most importantly, it needed to sound like everything except a pedal. After months of development and tweaks, prototype #2.0 went straight into Paisley's live rack for his 2010 H20 world tour.
The Paisley Drive proves its versatility across different guitar types, bringing out the best in Telecasters, Stratocasters, and humbucker-loaded instruments alike. Built-in presence and mid contour switches offer three distinct EQ characters – warm mids, neutral, and mid-scooped – making this one of the most complete overdrive pedals available. As Paisley himself noted after studio testing against his Trainwreck amp: "the sound of the distortion was very, very similar. And that's a very good test because any time a pedal can mimic a great overdriven amp then you're on to something".
