Vox's VFZ-1 is a two-transistor fuzz pedal that revives the Mk 1.5 circuit of the late 1960s–the topology that shaped electric guitar's most iconic tones. Rather than chase vintage Germanium transistors with their temperature drift and noise issues, Vox engineers analysed prised vintage units and developed a Silicon-based design using two BC108 Silver Can transistors, precisely biased to interact with the same musical interdependence as the originals. The result combines aggressive yet refined fuzz with modern stability and exceptionally low noise.

The VFZ-1's first transistor operates at unusually high input impedance, preserving your guitar's natural harmonics and allowing placement after Wah pedals or buffered units–solving a major compatibility limitation of classic fuzz designs. The second transistor shapes breakup character, delivering the smooth compression and rich overtone saturation of an overdriven vintage valve amp. Controls include a primary Fuzz knob, Bass Cut to adjust low-end entering the gain stages, Tone Cut to roll off high frequencies, and a Crunch Switch that instantly produces classic low-gain overdrive tones without touching your guitar's volume control.

The compact, rugged vintage–style enclosure runs on standard 9V pedalboard power, making the VFZ-1 a practical alternative to temperamental originals. Its dynamic feel and liquid sustain recall early fuzz tone without the noise floor or usability compromises that limited those units.
