The legendary Sir Brian May from Queen has partnered with Vox to create the MV50 Brian May, a revolutionary tube amplifier that captures his iconic stadium rock tones in a compact unit you can hold in your palm. This unique collaboration successfully encapsulates May’s massive rock sound into Vox’s popular MV50 format, allowing guitarists everywhere to access his instantly recognisable tone. As Brian May himself states: “I want people to be able to get the sounds you make in a stadium show into your living room, and this achieves that.”
Built on MV50 circuitry with AC30 tone characteristics, the amplifier incorporates Vox’s revolutionary Nutube technology – a vacuum tube that produces authentic tube tone at a fraction of traditional size and power requirements. The key to achieving Brian May’s signature sound lies in the integrated KAT (Knight Audio Technologies) treble booster, which can be toggled on or off. The refined control panel features gain, tone and volume controls, plus an EQ switch that toggles between flat (perfect for larger cabinets) and deep (ideal for achieving fuller tone from smaller cabinets).
Despite weighing only 540g, this 50-watt amplifier at 4 ohms packs serious punch, making it suitable for gigging, rehearsals and home practice. The headphone/line output includes cabinet simulation for direct recording without microphone setup. The striking red casing pays homage to May’s legendary ‘Red Special’ guitar, while the diamond-patterned cloth face bears his personal signature, representing his approval of this amp that carries his name.
