Two notes Audio Engineering has refreshed its loadbox range with Captor X Plus, a 16-ohm reactive unit that combines attenuation, cabinet simulation, and stereo processing in a compact format. The design addresses direct-to-PA and recording workflows by introducing a Virtual Load Shaper that sculpts post-load impedance curves and a True Stereo DynIR™ engine that independently positions two microphones or static impulse responses across the stereo field. The hardware attenuator offers three-step output reduction, while integrated DSP handles mic effects, post-processing, and headphone monitoring. Guitarists can run tube amplifiers at full saturation while controlling output levels for stage, studio, or silent practice sessions.
The Virtual Load Shaper modifies the tonal character of the direct signal by applying preset or custom impedance curves, monitored via XLR outputs or headphones. True Stereo operation routes two independent microphone positions or IRs with panning control, creating width and spatial dimension from a mono amplifier source. Captor X Plus ships with 32 DynIR virtual cabinets, each containing eight microphone models and 13 room simulations, accessible via the Torpedo Remote application for iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows. Onboard DSP includes a semi-parametric multi-mode EQ, low-latency reverb with 12 room modes plus custom settings, and an Enhancer section with thickness, brilliance, and body controls. Dual XLR outputs support simultaneous dry and processed signals, dual-mono routing with separate processing chains per channel, or full stereo cabinet simulation. The hardware stores 128 presets with six quick-access slots, and registered users receive three additional DynIR cabinets plus lifetime access to the GENOME software platform and over 600 third-party cabinet options.
The integrated Twin Tracker function splits the mono signal into pseudo-stereo by routing the original to the left XLR while generating a real-time processed variant on the right channel. Bundled cabinets include models inspired by Marshall, Fender, Mesa/Boogie, Orange, Vox, Engl, Diezel, Peavey, VHT, and other manufacturers, covering configurations from 1×12-inch to 4×12-inch with speaker types including Celestion Vintage 30, Greenback, Jensen, and Eminence drivers. The DynIR engine provides access to over 10,000 microphone positions per cabinet, with dual-mic'ing capability and industry-standard mic models. Connectivity includes dual balanced XLR line outputs, headphone output with dedicated amplification, and USB for computer control and firmware updates.
