Thomastik JS111 Jazz Swing Flatwound Electric Guitar Strings (11-47)

Thomastik's Jazz Swing flatwound strings are the gold standard for jazz players worldwide, trusted by generations of session greats and working musicians. Unlike ground or compressed alternatives, these are true flatwounds built on a round core with polished nickel winding that delivers the glassy, warm tone jazz demands. The JS111 light gauge (11–47) hits the sweet spot between playability and that characterful brightness that actual jazz musicians want.

The complete string set spans 0.011" (plain steel with brass or tin plating on the treble strings) through 0.047" (nickel flatwound on the bass). Plain steel trebles provide attack and articulation, while the three nickel flatwound bass strings—0.023", 0.033", and 0.047"—offer the mellow, fundamental–rich tone that sits right in a jazz mix. Tensions range from 19.9 lbs on the high E to 21.1 lbs on the low E, giving balanced feel across the neck without excessive stiffness.

These strings are known to improve with age—the more they're played, the more character they develop. Gigging musicians and studio engineers favour them precisely because they break in rather than wear out, rewarding hours on the fretboard with increasingly refined tone. Whether recording or performing live jazz, swing, or blues, the JS111 delivers the authentic flatwound voice that cuts through a full band.
