Teenage Engineering's CH–8 Miki is a tenor-voiced singing doll that bridges acoustic tradition and electronic control. Carved from solid beech wood with a built-in speaker module, Miki represents one member of a modular eight-voice choir system. The unit operates via MIDI keyboard, Bluetooth LE multicast, or pre-loaded compositions, enabling solo performance or ensemble singing with up to 15 additional choir members simultaneously. This is design hardware–craft meets generative music rather than a novelty ornament.

Physically, Miki measures 80 × 80 × 252 mm and weighs 1006 g, with a tenor vocal range housed in its wood body. The internal speaker module delivers up to 3–4 hours of continuous singing per charge cycle. Connectivity runs through Bluetooth LE for multi-unit synchronisation, MIDI input for keyboard control, and an Ortho Remote interface for start/stop and volume adjustment. Each doll features a unique wood grain pattern, ensuring tactile and visual individuality within any ensemble configuration.

Integration spans music production workflows seamlessly: pair Miki with OP–1 Field, OP–Z, or any standard MIDI controller to trigger harmonic sequences or sculpt ensemble textures in real time. The constraint of a fixed vocal range paradoxically opens compositional possibilities–users work within the tenor's frequency band rather than against unlimited synthesis. For laptop producers seeking tangible, responsive sound sources or live performers building electronic choir installations, Miki functions as both instrument and sculptural element.
