Tama Starclassic Bubinga 22" 5-Piece Shell Pack (Gloss African Cherry)

Tama's Starclassic Bubinga 22” 5–piece shell pack represents the brand's commitment to maximising resonance through material selection and construction philosophy. Built from 5mm, 5–ply Bubinga with a 1–ply Cordia inner layer, these shells deliver the dense, rich low–end and deep, dark tones Bubinga is prized for. The 22” bass drum (TBB2214S, 14” depth) anchors a kit designed for players seeking articulate attack and sustained projection without sacrificing natural shell vibration.

Shell thickness sits at 4.5mm across bass drums and snare drums–thinner than earlier Starclassic designs–allowing Bubinga to vibrate more freely and enhance overall resonance. All drums feature 9mm Sound Focus Rings for clear projection and reinforcement. Die–cast zinc hoops provide crisper attack and consistency compared to triple–flanged alternatives, while the Super Resonant Mounting System uses three–point contact with rubber isolation to minimise stress on shells and hoops. Tension rods stay locked via Hold Tight™ stainless steel washers with rubber rings, absorbing vibration impact. Bearing edges are rounded 3.5mm from the outer surface for efficient drumhead–to–shell energy transfer.

Hardware design prioritises minimal shell contact: low–mass bridge lugs, Quick–Lock tom brackets with rubber lining, and patent–designed bass drum spurs (US. PAT. NO. 9093051) featuring two–piece rubber–isolated spike construction absorb pedal impact without transferring it to the shell. Floor tom legs employ hollow, soft rubber feet to dampen downward striking force. Interior surfaces are hand–finished with oil on bearing edges and the Cordia inner ply, delivering both functional and visual refinement.
