The Tama Starclassic Bubinga 14” × 6.5” snare drum represents the company's premium approach to small–diameter backline shells. Bubinga wood's ultra–high density delivers rich, fat low end and dark tones that define the Starclassic character. At 4.5mm thickness with 9mm Sound Focus Rings, this snare prioritises shell resonance and projection over hardware mass, a philosophy evident in every contact point between shell and rim.
The model (TBS1465S) pairs a 4–ply Bubinga core with outer Cordia and inner Cordia plies, finished in gloss African cherry lacquer. Die–cast zinc hoops provide crisper attack and consistent tuning stability versus flanged alternatives. Remo® Coated Ambassador batter head and Snare Ambassador resonant side come standard. Hold Tight™ washers prevent tension–rod creep, whilst the bearing edge's 3.5mm peak position maximises head–to–shell vibration transfer and improves clarity across the playing surface.
The snare's mounting system employs rubber isolation at all contact points with stands, decoupling shell vibration from external hardware. Hand–finished oil interiors across the Cordia inner ply add tonal refinement and tactile quality. Wood inlay options—outside only, inside–and–outside, or none—allow customisation without compromising acoustic integrity, while the Gloss African Cherry finish delivers visual warmth across studio and stage setups.
