Tama PST146 STARPHONIC 14x6inch Steel Shell Snare Drum

The Tama PST146 STARPHONIC 14x6" Steel Shell Snare Drum brings professional–grade innovation to drummers without the premium price tag. By mounting cutting–edge hardware on a precision–engineered 1mm steel shell, this instrument offers exceptional sound quality at an intermediate price point. The warm, solid tone and remarkable sensitivity make it an outstanding choice for drummers seeking top–tier performance on a budget.

At the heart of this snare’s distinctive sound lies the revolutionary Grooved Hoop design, which combines vintage aesthetics with modern engineering principles. The Super Sensitive Hi–Carbon Snappy Snare wires have been completely redesigned using advanced materials and custom plate shaping to provide crisp, responsive articulation. Tama’s signature Bridge Edge bearing design positions the contact point 2.5mm inside the shell’s outer surface, creating optimal drumhead–to–shell contact that maximises resonance and sustain.

The STARPHONIC’s hardware innovations focus on both performance and practicality. The Linear–Drive strainer system provides smooth, precise control without the typical wire slap, whilst the 30–degree tilted butt plate reduces shell pressure and holds snare cords more securely. The Freedom Lug & Claw Hook system allows quick drumhead changes by simply tilting the hooks away from the hoop, and the Non–Loosing Rubber Gasket prevents tension bolts from backing out during play.

Fine–tuning capabilities are enhanced through the Detachable Butt Plate, which allows snare–side head changes whilst maintaining wire tension settings, and the Ratchet Style Snappy Tension Adjuster. This precision mechanism offers micro–adjustments of just 0.083mm per click, giving drummers ultra–sensitive control over snare response and ensuring settings remain locked in place even under demanding playing conditions.
