The Tama MC66 is a two–stage universal clamp engineered to expand drum kit configuration options without requiring dedicated stand pipes. Built by Tama–one of the industry's most respected hardware manufacturers–this clamp addresses a genuine need in kit design: the ability to mount auxiliary percussion and hardware across a wider range of diameters. The dual–sided design recognises that different components demand different clamping solutions, making it a practical addition to any evolving setup.
One side accommodates pipes from 15.9mm to 28.6mm in diameter, covering standard and larger stand tubes commonly found in mid–range and professional kits. The opposite side features a ratchet holder designed to secure rods between 9mm and 12mm in diameter–the typical gauge for L–rods and cymbal boom arms–whilst allowing angular adjustment for positioning flexibility. This asymmetrical arrangement means the clamp functions as both a pipe attachment point and a secondary hardware anchor in a single unit, eliminating the need for multiple bracket solutions.
The MC66 sits in the middle of Tama's clamp lineup. The heavier–duty MC67 handles larger pipes (19.1mm to 28.6mm) and thicker rods (12mm to 25.4mm), suited to more demanding applications. Conversely, the MC56 clamps directly onto existing stand pipes and accepts smaller L–rods, making it ideal for adding cowbells, woodblocks, or extra cymbals to an already–built frame without additional infrastructure.
