The Phonitor One redefines headphone amplification through its groundbreaking Phonitor Matrix technology and audiophile-grade components. At its heart, two Burr-Brown OPA 2134 SoundPlus™ operational amplifiers handle pre-amplification with exceptional precision, featuring ultra-low noise characteristics and minimal distortion of just 0.00008%. The true FET stage design achieves an impressive 20V/µs slew rate, contributing to dynamic and lively audio reproduction. High-quality Panasonic ‘Electric Double Layer’ gold electrolytic capacitors serve as coupling capacitors, while low capacitance film capacitors in the signal path ensure accurate high-frequency transmission.

The revolutionary Phonitor Matrix sets this amplifier apart from conventional headphone amps by offering adjustable crossfeed functionality that allows you to create headphone mixes that translate accurately to speakers. This system features three key parameters: Crossfeed, Speaker Angle, and Centre Level. In the Phonitor One, the centre level is preset to -1 dB and speaker angle to 30° - the most commonly used values. The crossfeed control manages channel crosstalk and interaural level differences, with full variability from completely bypassed to maximum effect via relay switching that keeps the function out of the signal path when not required.

The output stage utilises a push-pull Class AB design with bipolar transistors sharing amplification duties between positive and negative half-waves, resulting in higher gain and output voltage compared to Class A operation. Thermally coupled output transistors ensure coherent performance and stable sound reproduction. Two analogue stereo inputs accommodate various sources including DA-converters, CD players, mixers, and tape machines through both balanced TRS and unbalanced RCA connections. The internal power supply generates +/-17 Volts from the included 12V adapter, enabling professional output levels up to +22.5 dB with sophisticated low-drop voltage regulation maintaining clean performance even at maximum operating levels.
