The Phonitor One represents a breakthrough in headphone amplification technology, featuring the revolutionary Phonitor Matrix system that allows you to create mixes on headphones that translate perfectly to speakers. At its core, two Burr-Brown OPA 2134 SoundPlus™ operational amplifiers handle pre-amplification with exceptional precision, boasting minimal distortion of just 0.00008% and a high-speed slew rate of 20V/µs that brings immediate liveliness to your audio playback. The signal path incorporates low capacitance film capacitors as bypass components, while premium Panasonic ‘Electric Double Layer’ gold electrolytic coupling capacitors provide maximum storage capacity for superior signal integrity.
The innovative Phonitor Matrix technology sets this amplifier apart from conventional headphone amps, offering adjustable crossfeed functionality with preset centre level at -1 dB and speaker angle at 30° - the most commonly used professional values. This crossfeed function controls channel crosstalk and interaural level differences, with fully variable intensity that can be completely bypassed via relay switching when not required. The output stage operates as a push-pull amplifier in class AB mode, utilising thermally coupled bipolar transistors that share amplification duties between positive and negative half-waves for higher gain and output voltage compared to traditional Class A designs.
Connectivity options include two analogue stereo inputs accepting both balanced TRS and unbalanced RCA connections, accommodating sources from DA-converters and CD players to mixers and tape machines. The Phonitor One d variant adds USB connectivity with a state-of-the-art AK4490 32-bit DAC featuring AKM’s Velvet Sound® technology, supporting sampling frequencies up to 768kHz PCM and DSD playback up to DSD256 resolution. The USB connection is Class Compliant, ensuring seamless compatibility with Mac computers and iOS devices without driver installation, while the line output allows for daisy-chaining multiple devices without losing connectivity options.
Professional-grade power management forms the foundation of the Phonitor One’s performance, with an internal secondary power supply generating +/-17 Volts for analogue audio sections capable of handling professional levels up to +22.5 dB. The sophisticated low-drop voltage regulation maintains clean power even at maximum operating levels, while the included 1.5 A power supply ensures full performance capability across all operating conditions.
