Born from collaboration with legendary producers Flood and Alan Moulder, the Sontronics SATURN condenser microphone has redefined studio versatility since its 2010 debut. Originally conceived as a vocal microphone, early testing sessions with producer Flood – known for his work with U2, Nine Inch Nails, The Foals, and Editors – revealed the SATURN’s exceptional performance across a vast range of sources, leading to its development as the ultimate all-rounder for any recording environment.
The SATURN features five distinct polar patterns including omnidirectional, cardioid, figure-of-eight, plus the additional subcardioid and hypercardioid options. Variable attenuation controls (0, -10dB, -20dB) and selectable high-pass filters (linear, 75Hz, 125Hz) provide complete flexibility for any recording situation. This comprehensive control set makes the microphone equally at home capturing vocals, spoken word, guitars, brass, woodwind, strings, piano, drums, ethnic instruments, ensembles, and room ambience.
Drawing inspiration from classic vocal microphones of the 1940s and ‘50s, the SATURN’s retro styling houses cutting-edge audio reproduction technology. Its natural, accurate sound sits seamlessly in both digital and analogue mixes, capturing sources with remarkable detail and refinement. The microphone’s realistic reproduction allows for creative mixing possibilities while maintaining the authentic character of the original performance, making it an indispensable tool for modern studios.
