The legendary APOLLO phantom-powered stereo ribbon microphone has been the secret weapon behind countless world-class recordings for over a decade, from Glyndebourne Opera House to Abbey Road Studios where it captures their Steinway grand piano almost daily. Following years of development and experimentation with premium components that led to their award-winning ARIA and MERCURY valve microphones, Sontronics has now applied these same improvements to create the APOLLO 2, taking ribbon microphone technology to extraordinary new heights.
The APOLLO 2 maintains the proven dual ribbon element design in an X-Y Blumlein configuration that made the original so sought-after by studio owners, venues, composers and sound stages worldwide. Its uniquely-designed, laser-welded cylindrical grille captures a stunning three-dimensional image with superb accuracy, making it perfect for orchestral, choral and piano recordings while beautifully capturing the ambience and character of your entire recording space.
This versatile microphone excels as an overhead for drums and percussion or smaller instrument and vocal ensembles, producing natural, expansive results with perfect detail and clarity in the high frequencies plus balanced depth and fullness in the mids and lows. When needed, either ribbon element can be used independently, allowing the APOLLO 2 to function as a mono microphone for additional recording flexibility.
