Seymour Duncan's SSL-1 Vintage Staggered pickups capture the authentic bell-like tones that made 1950s Stratocasters legendary. These meticulously crafted pickups feature hand-ground alnico 5 rod magnets paired with heavy Formvar magnet wire, wound using a special pattern that produces the bright, glassy sound with exceptional bounce and sparkle. The treble response offers crisp, immediate attack whilst maintaining articulate and focused low-end performance, ensuring chords ring out with outstanding note-to-note clarity.
The three-pickup set includes standard wound neck and bridge pickups, plus an RWRP (reverse wind reverse polarity) middle pickup that provides effective noise cancellation when using in-between switch positions. Since 1978, Seymour Duncan has maintained authentic construction methods, using period-correct Forbon flatwork in the proper colour and thickness, along with historically accurate magnet stagger patterns.
Each pickup showcases traditional craftsmanship with hand-filed flatwork, careful assembly, and lacquered bobbins that mirror Fender's Golden Age manufacturing techniques. Complete with waxed and tinned cloth pushback hook-up wires and traditional keyed bottom plates, these pickups are hand-built in Santa Barbara, California and potted in Seymour Duncan's proprietary wax formulation to ensure squeal-free performance under any playing conditions.
