Originally crafted in the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop for Hamer Guitars, these pickups became so popular they moved into regular production. The Phat Cat is essentially a genuine single-coil P90 Soapbar fitted under a humbucker cover, making it perfect for guitars already routed for humbuckers.

These pickups capture all the authentic P90 bounce and sparkle you’d find in a great vintage P90 Soapbar, particularly in the neck position. Chords ring with bright harmonic overtones while lead work cuts through with that classic P90 edge and attack. The design incorporates two Alnico 2 bar magnets for enhanced sustain and compressed response, whilst the metal covers offer superior shielding and noise reduction compared to standard soapbar covers.

Built to professional standards, each pickup features a nickel silver bottom plate, single-conductor braided hookup wire and vacuum wax potting to prevent unwanted squealing. The neck pickup is wound reverse polarity to the bridge model, ensuring quiet operation when both pickups are used together. Hand-built in Santa Barbara, California, the Phat Cat pickups bring authentic P90 tone to any humbucker-equipped guitar.
