Originally crafted in the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop specifically for Hamer Guitars, these pickups became so popular that they moved into regular production. The Phat Cat is essentially a genuine single-coil P90 Soapbar that’s been cleverly retrofitted under a humbucker cover, making it perfect for guitars equipped with humbucker routing.

You’ll find all the authentic grit and growl you’d expect from a quality vintage P90 Soapbar, particularly in the bridge position. Chord work produces bright, ringing harmonic overtones, while lead playing showcases that classic P90 cut and edge that cuts through any mix. The design incorporates two Alnico 2 bar magnets that provide enhanced sustain and a compressed attack response, whilst the metal covers offer superior shielding and noise reduction compared to standard soapbar covers.

Built with attention to detail, these pickups feature a nickel silver bottom plate, single-conductor braided hookup wire, and vacuum wax potting to prevent unwanted squealing. The neck pickup is wound reverse polarity (RW/RP) relative to the bridge pickup, ensuring hum-free operation when both pickups are used together. Each Phat Cat humbucker-sized P90 pickup is hand-built in Santa Barbara, California.
