Joe Bonamassa’s legendary 1960 blonde dot-neck Gibson ES-335 has inspired one of the most authentic P.A.F. humbucker recreations ever produced. When Seymour Duncan approached the blues virtuoso to recreate pickups from one of his favourite guitars, Bonamassa selected “The Blonde Dot” – a pristine instrument purchased from a collector friend with an impressive vintage 335 collection. The original pickups in this immaculate guitar represented some of the most balanced P.A.F.s in Joe’s extensive collection, making them the perfect candidates for faithful reproduction.
Seymour Duncan meticulously measured and recorded the original pickups to create “The Blonde Dot” 1960 ES-335 Humbucker Set. Joe characterises the neck pickup as “stratty and clear” whilst describing the bridge pickup as “punchy and dark”, creating a balanced combination that performs exceptionally across different guitar platforms. The vintage-spec set features an Alnico 2 magnet in the neck position, with a stronger Alnico 4 magnet selected to best capture the qualities of the original bridge pickup.
Matching the like-new condition of the original Blonde Dot, these humbuckers come with unaged nickel covers and black pickup rings. The first 800 sets are presented in limited edition packaging and include bottom plates personally signed by both Bonamassa and Seymour Duncan. Once these limited edition sets sell out, “The Blonde Dot” pickups will remain available with standard Custom Shop cosmetic options, making them suitable for ES-335s, Les Pauls, or any guitar requiring authentic P.A.F. humbucker tone.
