When Slash's signature Gibson Les Paul didn't sound quite right with his usual Alnico 2 Pro humbuckers, Seymour Duncan knew they had a problem to solve. The legendary guitarist's new signature guitars were missing that distinctive tone that made his original AFD Les Paul so iconic, prompting Seymour Duncan to develop an entirely new pickup specifically for Slash.
The solution came through careful engineering – a different magnet wire and winding specification that, combined with the alnico 2 bar magnet, recreates the familiar sustain, crunch, and midrange characteristics of Slash's original sound. These Slash Signature Model humbuckers push a standard Les Paul towards that unmistakable tone that fans know and love.
Each pickup is hand–built in Santa Barbara using the same methods Seymour Duncan employed in the 1980s, featuring a nickel silver bottom plate with long mounting legs, single conductor braided lead wire, maple spacer, paper tape, and wax potting. What makes this even more special is that the pickups you can purchase are identical to those installed in Slash's own guitars – when he needs new APH–2s, they come straight from the same production stock.
