The Seymour Duncan Sentient™ Active Mount is a 7–string neck humbucker designed specifically for extended–range instruments routed for active electronics. Engineered in Seymour Duncan's Santa Barbara factory over more than 45 years of pickup development, the Sentient delivers articulate vintage output with dynamic response across clean and high–gain applications. Its alnico 5 bar magnet and nickel silver bottom plate produce a balanced tone that bridges the company's classic '59 and Jazz voicings, making it equally suited to low tunings and extended–range metal rigs.
Hand–built construction includes vacuum wax potting for squeal–free performance and a 4–conductor shielded cable enabling multiple wiring configurations. Available in two DCR options—9.2k or 10.1k—the neck pickup pairs seamlessly with Nazgûl or Pegasus bridge models to ensure phase coherence across the instrument. The soapbar cover features a single row of exposed poles and mounts directly into active guitar routes; passive versions with traditional open–coil or metal humbucker covers are also available for standard cavity fitment.
The Sentient's articulation and wide harmonic range suit everything from jazz phrasing to aggressive metal lead work. Its position between vintage and modern voicings makes it responsive enough for percussive picking whilst retaining smooth sustain under gain, with particular effectiveness in tunings below standard pitch where clarity and note separation are critical.
