The Seymour Duncan Nazgûl™ Active Mount is a high-output passive humbucker engineered for extended-range metal guitars operating in low tunings. Built in Santa Barbara, California, it combines a large ceramic bar magnet with custom winding specifications to deliver brutal articulation and tight bass response under high-gain conditions. The Active Mount configuration allows quick retrofit installation into 7 and 8-string guitars with active routing, featuring a black soapbar cover with exposed pole pieces.
This bridge pickup uses a ceramic magnet paired with a nickel-silver bottom plate and vacuum wax potting for squeal-free operation. The 4-conductor shielded lead wire enables multiple wiring configurations, whilst a 16.7–18.5 ohm DCR range ensures consistent output across units. Ceramic magnets elevate the resonant frequency for increased clarity and faster pick response compared to Alnico formulations, producing searing highs and grinding mids without sacrificing note definition at saturation levels. Hand-assembled construction ensures repeatability across production runs.
Pairing the Nazgûl bridge with a Sentient™ neck pickup realises the full tonal palette designed for seven and eight-string instruments. The pickup performs equally well on clean amp settings, delivering bell-like tones whilst maintaining its signature aggression on high-gain channels. Hand winding and potting processes keep artefacts and noise at bay, making it a stable choice for studio work or tour environments demanding reliability.
