Seymour Duncan 50th Anniversary Custom Pickup Set (Black)

Seymour Duncan's 50th Anniversary Custom Pickup Set marks five decades of high-gain tone through a limited run of 500 hand-built sets. The bridge pickup uses a ceramic magnet paired with custom-wound coils to deliver tight lows, pronounced upper-mids, and cutting treble that stays articulate in both clean and saturated settings. This set reproduces the original Duncan Custom design from the late 1970s, when players first demanded more power and clarity from their humbuckers.

The bridge pickup runs 14.1k DCR with a ceramic magnet, while the neck pickup pairs an Alnico 5 magnet with 7.60k DCR for balanced note separation and bloom. Each set returns to early specifications including butyrate bobbins, long-leg baseplates, and maple spacers–authentic details that shape the pickup's magnetic circuit and harmonic character. All 500 sets are hand-built by Seymour Duncan's Custom Shop team, individually signed by Seymour W. Duncan and Master Builder Maricela Juarez, and finished with period-correct styling and commemorative packaging.

The Duncan Custom bridges the gap between vintage response and modern output, holding its own under overdrive and distortion while maintaining definition on clean tones. Players tracking everything from hard rock to metal to blues will find the tonal balance leans toward presence and punch without sacrificing the organic feel of a quality humbucker. The vintage construction methods used here affect resonance and sustain in measurable ways–bobbins and baseplates influence inductance, which shapes how the pickups respond to pick attack and string vibration.
