Roland's TR-707 Rhythm Composer has evolved from an underrated 1985 release to a legendary drum machine that shaped countless hit tracks across synth pop, acid house, industrial, electro, indie, and alternative genres. Now available as a software plugin powered by Analog Circuit Behaviour (ACB) technology, this authentic recreation brings the influential drum machine's distinctive sound directly into your DAW with modern enhancements that push it into new creative territory.
The TR-707 marked Roland's bold shift toward digital technology following the hybrid TR-909, combining crisp sampled sounds with the familiar TR interface enhanced by individual faders for hands-on control. Rather than relying on simple samples, Roland's software recreation starts with the original PCM wave data and uses advanced circuit modelling to completely recreate the PCM output stage, including all its characteristic quirks and instabilities. The modelling extends to the analog envelope and amplifier stages after the D/A converter, enabling parameters like tuning, decay, attack, and PCM clock adjustment that weren't available on the original hardware.
This software version includes all 15 original sounds and 64 patterns, plus 43 additional kits and patterns for modern genres, realistic new and aged visual skins, and advanced sound-shaping capabilities inspired by aftermarket modifications. You can adjust attack on the bass drum, snappy on the snare, overdrive internal circuitry, and tweak PCM clock settings from 6.25 kHz to 100 kHz for serious sonic experimentation. The enhanced sequencer surpasses even the original's advanced capabilities with individual lanes featuring mute, solo, adjustable shuffle, per-step accents, hard/weak hits, alternate sounds, sub-steps, and nine flam types.
Built for modern workflows, the TR-707 Software Rhythm Composer offers full interface resizing, drag-and-drop MIDI and audio pattern support, multi-out functionality, and compatibility with VST3, AAX, and AU formats including native Apple silicon support. The plugin works seamlessly with the available TR-727, featuring matching kits and patterns that complement each other perfectly for comprehensive rhythm programming.
