Paul Reed Smith and the engineering team developed the McCarty III humbuckers through extensive analysis of vintage models and contemporary pickup research, resulting in warm, full-voiced pickups with exceptional vocal clarity.

The Narrowfield middle pickup captures the cut and presence of a traditional single-coil without introducing hum into the signal chain. The maple top sits over a mahogany back, with a 25" scale length mahogany neck featuring 22 frets on a rosewood fretboard. Phase III locking tuners with wing buttons ensure stable tuning, while the PRS Gen III patented tremolo system allows expressive pitch modulation. The tone control rolls off highs for added grit or opens up for shimmer and articulation. Volume balance between humbucker and split-coil modes remains consistent, making pickup switching practical during performance.
