PRS Silver Sky Electric Guitar Midnight Rose Maple Fretboard

Born from a two-year collaboration between Grammy Award-winning guitarist John Mayer and master luthier Paul Reed Smith, the PRS Silver Sky represents a complete reimagining of the classic single-coil electric guitar. This instrument combines the warmth and character of beloved 1963 and 1964 vintage guitars with modern precision engineering and contemporary aesthetics. Mayer’s vision was to create an idealised version of a vintage single-coil guitar where every component works in harmony to set it apart from both current offerings and historical instruments.

The Silver Sky features several distinctive design elements that showcase its thoughtful development. The headstock utilises PRS’s trademark shape but inverted to suit Mayer’s playing style while maintaining consistent string length behind the nut for improved tuning stability. Traditional vintage-style closed-back tuners incorporate PRS’s locking mechanism, whilst the steel tremolo bridge uses patented PRS design with Gen III knife-edge screws. Set flush to the body in neutral position for downward pitch movement only, this configuration increases body contact for enhanced acoustic resonance and improved signal-to-noise ratio with the single-coil pickups.

The 635JM single-coil pickups provide round, full tones with musical high-end response that avoids harsh or brash characteristics. Available with either rosewood or maple fretboards, each option features a 7.25” radius developed through extensive vintage instrument research and Mayer’s on-stage testing. The maple option retains the original 635JM neck profile, while the rosewood variant includes subtly modified shoulders for a more rounded feel. Additional premium appointments include a bone nut, curved metal jack plate for easy cable connection, retooled knobs, and PRS’s front-accessible double action truss rod, all supplied with a premium gig bag.
