John Mayer's passion for vintage Land Rover Defenders has now crossed into his signature guitar series with this strictly numbered limited edition. Each of the four heritage colours in this collection–Arles Blue, Willow Green, Portofino Red, and Sandglow Yellow–traces directly back to finishes found on Mayer's personal 4x4 collection. This particular Arles Blue example is one of just 500 guitars produced in this finish, part of a 2,000–piece global run that reimagines the Silver Sky through the lens of automotive history. The colour extends beyond the body to include a matching painted headstock, a treatment PRS reserves exclusively for select limited runs.

A custom–engraved neck plate reads “Arles Blue” alongside “1 of 500,” permanently documenting this instrument's place in the series. The included ATA–moulded case carries a dedicated “DEFENDER” badge, reinforcing the collaboration's identity from unboxing forward. Beneath the Defender–inspired finish sits the same bolt–on maple neck, alder body, and trio of single–coil pickups that define the standard Silver Sky platform–a design Mayer and PRS developed around the response characteristics of 1960s reference instruments. Refinements in fretwork, tremolo geometry, and pickup voicing maintain the vintage–informed playing experience the model has become known for since its introduction.

Where previous Silver Sky colours drew from desert landscapes, ocean horizons, and natural elements, this series pulls inspiration from sheet metal and automotive paint codes. The result connects guitar tradition to a different kind of collector culture, one rooted in off–road heritage rather than musical precedent. Each of the four finishes in the Defender Color Collection pairs a vibrant body colour with contrasting headstock treatment, mirroring the two–tone roof schemes that made certain Defender models instantly recognisable on the road.
