Born from a two-year collaboration between Grammy Award-winning guitarist John Mayer and master luthier Paul Reed Smith, the PRS Silver Sky represents a complete reimagining of the classic single-coil electric guitar. This instrument combines the warmth and character of beloved 1963 and 1964 vintage guitars with modern precision and reliability. Mayer's vision was to create an idealised version that captures the familiarity of old instruments whilst offering the finesse and consistency that today's players demand.
The Silver Sky features several distinctive design elements that set it apart from traditional single-coil guitars. The inverted PRS trademark headstock shape accommodates Mayer's playing style and maintains consistent string length behind the nut for improved tuning stability. The steel tremolo bridge incorporates PRS's patented design with Gen III knife-edge screws, set flush to the body to increase acoustic resonance and improve the signal-to-noise ratio of the 635JM single-coil pickups. These pickups offer a round, full tone with musical high-end response that avoids harsh or brash characteristics.
Available with either rosewood or maple fretboard options, each neck profile has been carefully crafted through extensive research of vintage instruments and real-world testing. The rosewood option features subtly modified shoulders for a more rounded feel, whilst both maintain a 7.25" radius for authentic vintage playability. Premium appointments include a bone nut, moulded metal jack plate, vintage-style locking tuners, and PRS's front-accessible double action truss rod, all housed in an alder body with maple neck construction.
