PRS HDRX20 20w Valve Guitar Amp Head

The PRS HDRX 20 brings the legendary tones of late 60’s British amplification to your fingertips in a perfectly sized package. This remarkable amplifier features the newly-documented “Authentic Hendrix” Touring Circuit, heavily inspired by one of Hendrix’s personal amps that was purportedly used at Woodstock. Paul Reed Smith and PRS Amp Designer Doug Sewell had the rare opportunity to study this historic amplifier in 2018, capturing its essence in the HDRX series.

At the heart of the HDRX 20 are two 5881 power tubes, carefully selected for their lower power output, compact size, and organic voice characteristics. These tubes produce thick yet articulate tones that drive beautifully and break up with musical grace in this lower-wattage configuration. The amp is engineered to push the high-end frequencies for exceptional clarity without harshness, allowing the HDRX to shine brightly without glaring while maintaining the ability to dial back aggression for smooth, sweet tones.

The control layout mirrors the historic amplifier with a 3-band TMB tone stack, 2-way bright switch, high-mid gain switch, and presence controls, giving players comprehensive tonal flexibility. The HDRX 20 features internally bridged channels with individual treble and bass volume controls, eliminating the need for external jumper cables and allowing players to blend the lead and bass channels for precise distortion and tonal control. The addition of a Master Volume control – a new feature for HDRX amps – provides modern convenience by controlling the power amp section without requiring external attenuation.
