The McCarty 594 stands as a testament to vintage craftsmanship meeting modern precision, offering guitarists an instrument that feels familiar from the first touch. This versatile guitar features a bound 22–fret Pattern Vintage neck with a slightly thicker back design that enhances both tone and sustain. The result is an instrument that maintains perfect intonation across the entire fretboard whilst providing the comfortable playability that makes it feel like an old favourite.
At the heart of the McCarty 594’s sonic versatility are the 58/15 LT pickups, now refined through PRS’s TCI (tuned capacitance and inductance) process. Combined with dual volume controls and push/pull tone controls, these pickups allow seamless transitions between rich, authentic humbucker tones and nuanced single–coil sounds. The guitar’s foundation is anchored by a zinc two–piece bridge and vintage–style tuners, maintaining the authentic character that defines the McCarty family.
Paul Reed Smith’s collaboration with Ted McCarty in the late 1980s laid the groundwork for this exceptional instrument series. As Paul notes, "everything that touches the string is God" – referring to the bridge, nut, and tuners – and the updates to the McCarty family significantly enhance both sustain and tonal character. The McCarty 594 represents the culmination of decades of refinement, incorporating the full spectrum of knowledge gained from this legendary partnership whilst honouring the techniques that have made PRS guitars so highly regarded.
