The McCarty 594 stands as a testament to vintage craftsmanship meeting modern precision, offering guitarists an instrument that feels familiar from the first strum. This versatile guitar features a bound 22‐fret Pattern Vintage neck with a slightly thicker back that enhances both tone and sustain. The result is an instrument that maintains perfect intonation across the entire fretboard whilst providing the comfortable playability of a well‐worn favourite.
At the heart of the McCarty 594’s sonic versatility lie the 58/15 LT pickups, now refined through PRS’s TCI (tuned capacitance and inductance) process. Combined with dual volume controls and push/pull tone controls, these pickups seamlessly transition between rich, authentic humbucker tones and nuanced single‐coil sounds. The guitar’s foundation is anchored by a zinc two‐piece bridge and vintage‐style tuners, maintaining the authentic character that defines the McCarty family.
The McCarty lineage traces back to the late 1980s when Paul Reed Smith sought guidance from legendary guitar designer Ted McCarty. This mentorship blossomed into both professional collaboration and personal friendship, culminating in the 1994 release of the first McCarty guitar. As Paul Reed Smith notes, “everything that touches the string is God – well, that’s really the bridge, the nut, and the tuners,” and the updates to the McCarty family significantly enhance sustain and tonal character.
