This is the guitar that launched PRS Guitars into the spotlight back in 1985, when Paul Reed Smith debuted it at Winter NAMM. The Custom 24 remains a top–selling model decades later, trusted by touring pros and weekend warriors alike. It ships with PRS's patented Gen III tremolo system and a pair of 85/15 humbuckers, controlled via dedicated volume and tone knobs plus a 5–way blade selector. The Pattern Thin neck carve delivers fast, comfortable access across all 24 frets.
Paul Reed Smith voiced the 85/15 pickups himself, targeting extended frequency response at both ends of the spectrum alongside exceptional note definition. The Gen III tremolo offers stable tuning and smooth pitch bends without compromising sustain. For 2024, PRS has fitted new Wing tuning buttons—originally prototyped in 1982—that echo the 12th fret bird inlay wingspan. These buttons weigh less than traditional metal hardware, reducing mass at the headstock so less energy is stolen from the vibrating strings, resulting in longer ring and improved note clarity.
This Custom Color finish option breaks away from standard catalogue hues, giving players a distinctive look without sacrificing the core tonal and structural DNA that defines the model. Since its introduction nearly four decades ago, the Custom 24 has set the benchmark for PRS playability and sonic character. It comes with a hard case included.
