Since 1985, the Custom 24 has stood as the flagship model that launched PRS Guitars into the spotlight at their debut Winter NAMM show. This iconic instrument represents the original vision of Paul Reed Smith and continues to be a top seller among internationally touring artists, gigging musicians, and aspiring players alike. The Custom 24 has consistently offered a unique tonal option for serious players while defining the signature PRS tone and playability that the brand is renowned for.
At the heart of this quintessential PRS guitar lies the patented Gen III tremolo system paired with PRS 85/15 pickups, which were personally designed by Paul Reed Smith himself. These pickups offer remarkable clarity with extended high and low end response, controlled through volume and tone knobs alongside a 5-way blade switch for maximum tonal versatility.
For 2024, PRS Guitars has updated the tuning machines across many Core guitars with new Wing buttons that echo the 12th fret bird wingspan design. Originally conceived in 1982, these lighter-weight buttons were designed primarily for tonal reasons rather than aesthetics. By subtracting less energy from the vibrating strings compared to their metal predecessors, the Wing buttons help the guitar ring longer and sustain at a more musical note.
