Protection Racket's 18" Surdo case (catalogue no. 9918–00) applies the same rigid–case engineering found in the manufacturer's Pro Line drum cases to percussion's deeper, more demanding instruments. Built around a Propile foam interior, it absorbs impact and vibration during transport while maintaining the drum's structural integrity. The design recognises that surdos–whether Brazilian frame drums or orchestral bass percussion–require protection comparable to high–end drum kits, not generic soft cases.
Internal dimensions measure 20" × 24½", providing clearance for the 18" shell plus hardware fixtures and lugs that would otherwise impose stress during travel. A central padded carry handle distributes weight across the case's strongest point, whilst the included shoulder strap enables hands–free transport for musicians moving between venues or studios. The rigid outer shell and foam lining work together to isolate the instrument from road vibration, temperature fluctuations, and compression damage that softer alternatives cannot prevent.
The case's internal volume accommodates not just the drum itself but accompanying tuning hardware, dampening materials, and accessories without forcing unnecessary pressure on the shell. For session players, touring musicians, and percussion specialists who rely on consistent tone and appearance, the combination of durable construction and protective cushioning justifies the investment over disposable packaging or inadequate hard cases.
