Paiste's 18" Giant Beat cymbal sits at the intersection of classic design and pro-level response. Originally developed in 1967 during rock music's most experimental period, this crash delivers the deep, dark, brilliant character that defined an era. The 18" size offers substantial mass and projection without the weight burden of larger cymbals, making it practical for touring musicians and studio sessions alike.
The Giant Beat's sound profile combines a pearly, wooden ping across a wide, deep wash with a big, swelling crash and a strong, articulate embedded bell. Response remains even and balanced throughout dynamic playing ranges. The cymbal's fairly complex harmonic mix sits darker and warmer than brighter series alternatives, yet maintains enough brilliance to cut through dense arrangements. Paiste's traditional B20 bronze formula and hand–hammered construction ensure consistent sustain and tonal complexity across the playing surface.
Drummers gravitating toward vintage rock, heavy blues, or darker jazz idioms find the Giant Beat's character particularly suited to their voices. The cymbal responds evenly to both stick and mallet work, enabling both crash applications and riding textures from a single piece. Bedroom producers and engineers mixing rock records benefit from its recorded tone—the embedded bell cuts clearly without harshness, while the wash sits naturally in a stereo mix without muddying the frequency spectrum.
