Born from the creative vision of Orange Technical Director Adrian Emsley in London's West End, the O Bass emerged from his passion for classic gear and extensive work with bass players in 1990s Los Angeles. Emsley's dream was to craft something lightweight with long-scale construction and classic tone, leading to this distinctive instrument that captures the essence of vintage bass design with modern innovation.
The O Bass features an unconventional pickup positioning that Emsley discovered after watching a mate hand-modify his own bass in LA during the early 90s. This unique placement delivers genuine growl with a fuller high register, while the classic single cutaway body shape and split-coil pickup positioned slightly closer to the neck produces that signature deep, warm growl that sets it apart from conventional basses.
Players will find remarkable tonal versatility at their fingertips - a gentle touch brings out earthy Motown and R&B characteristics, while digging in harder unleashes an infectious harmonic grind reminiscent of rock 'n' roll's golden era. Rolling back the tone knob opens up mellow dub textures and laid-back reggae vibes, making this instrument adaptable to virtually any musical style.
Following its acclaimed 2015 debut, the updated O Bass returns with thoughtful refinements including premium binding around the entire instrument and a sophisticated black headstock on both orange and black models. These cosmetic improvements complement underlying innovations that make the O Bass one of the most playable, colourful and versatile bass guitars available today.
