The Meinl Byzance Extra Dry 18" China Cymbal stands as a distinctive addition to any drummer's arsenal, offering an aggressive yet controlled voice that cuts through dense mixes with remarkable precision. This hand–hammered B20 bronze cymbal features an unlathed surface that produces dark, raw, and earthy tones with a uniquely trashy attack. The medium–thin weight construction allows for quick, explosive accents while maintaining the complex, dirty character that makes this cymbal particularly suited to jazz, funk, R&B, and electronic music applications.
Built with traditional craftsmanship techniques, each cymbal showcases individual sonic characteristics thanks to the hand–hammering process that creates its signature sound profile. The extra dry finish contributes to its fast decay and low sustain properties, while the natural appearance maintains an organic, unrefined aesthetic. With its low pitch and esoteric dry character, this 18–inch China cymbal excels in studio environments and live performances where subtle textural elements are required rather than overpowering crash effects.
The rustic finish and dark timbre make this cymbal an excellent choice for drummers seeking to add atmospheric passages and intricate groove elements to their playing. Its low volume characteristics and short sustain properties allow for precise dynamic control, making it particularly valuable in situations requiring nuanced musical expression rather than pure volume and projection.
