Martin Guitar's remarkable 190-year journey began when C.F. Martin IV's ancestors stepped off a ship in New York City on November 6th, carrying nothing but dreams and the skills that would birth America's most iconic guitar company. The German immigrants initially established their first workshop at 196 Hudson Street, laying the foundation for what would become a legendary musical instrument dynasty spanning nearly two centuries.
To commemorate this extraordinary milestone, Martin has revived the D-19 model designation, originally introduced during America's bicentennial in 1976 as an enhanced version of the beloved D-18. The original D-19 showcased Martin's early commitment to sustainability by utilising cosmetically imperfect spruce that was stained to create beautiful instruments from otherwise overlooked timber.
This anniversary edition continues that sustainable philosophy, featuring Adirondack spruce tops that have been carefully stored in Martin's inventory. Through innovative Mimaki printing technology, these tops receive a stunning figured mahogany appearance, creating 190 unique instruments that honour both the company's heritage and environmental responsibility. Each guitar represents not just craftsmanship, but a celebration of the immigrant spirit that built both Martin Guitar and America itself.
