Johnny Cash's legendary partnership with Martin Guitar began in the early 1970s when the company crafted their first-ever all-black lacquered D-35 specifically for the “Man in Black.” This groundbreaking custom instrument became Cash's faithful stage companion for two decades, establishing a musical legacy that would inspire generations of musicians.

Following the success of Martin's 2006 commemorative D-35 Johnny Cash edition, the company has introduced the DX Johnny Cash for 2019. Developed in partnership with John Carter Cash and the Cash Foundation management team, this tribute guitar maintains the classic Dreadnought body shape whilst featuring a striking Jett black high-pressure laminate (HPL) construction for the top, back and sides.

The DX Johnny Cash honours its namesake with distinctive appointments including a custom fingerboard adorned with star inlays and the iconic “CASH” logo. Johnny Cash's signature graces both the rosette and internal label, whilst Fishman® MX electronics provide modern amplification capabilities. The guitar arrives complete with a soft gig bag embroidered with the “CASH” logo and is factory-strung with Martin's Authentic Acoustic Lifespan® 2.0 strings, making it an accessible tribute instrument for musicians seeking to celebrate the legendary artist's enduring influence.
