The Martin DSS-16E 1935 brings a distinctive slope-shoulder dreadnought silhouette to the refreshed 16 Series, combining vintage aesthetic with contemporary playability. Its standout feature is the short 24.9" scale length–a first for this body shape–which delivers a noticeably relaxed feel and warm, woody midrange character. The gloss spruce top wears a striking 1935 Burst finish, while solid mahogany back and sides contribute punchy mids and focused low-end response that cuts through ensemble arrangements.
Forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing enhances bass resonance and overall projection, working in tandem with the slope-shoulder design's naturally intimate tonal signature. L.R. Baggs® Element™ electronics provide stage-ready amplification, while a select hardwood neck with modified low oval profile and ebony fingerboard–inlaid in 1955 Style 18–spans 20 frets. Nickel open-gear tuners, bone saddle, and ebony bridge handle hardware duties, with a 1 3/4" nut width maintaining familiar Martin proportions. Ships strung with Martin Era™ Legacy Edition strings developed specifically alongside this series, and includes a softshell case.
