Martin's DSS-16E brings a striking Cherry Cola gloss finish to the revived 16 Series, pairing a solid spruce top with satin mahogany back and sides in a slope–shoulder dreadnought body. The 24.9" short scale length is a first for this body shape, delivering a relaxed playing feel that suits the guitar's naturally warm, woody character. Forward–shifted scalloped X–bracing enhances bass response and overall resonance, while the punchy midrange and focused low end cut through without overwhelming a mix.
The 14–fret design features a modified low oval neck profile in select hardwood with satin finish, paired with an ebony fingerboard carrying 1955 Style 18 inlays and a 1 3/4" nut width. An ebony bridge houses a bone saddle, and nickel open–gear tuners handle string tension with precision. L.R. Baggs Element electronics provide amplified tone control, complemented by a grained ivoroid pickguard that adds visual distinction. Ships strung with Martin Era Legacy Edition strings developed specifically alongside this series refresh, and includes a protective softshell case.
