Martin Guitar has reimagined their legendary D-28 after nearly a century of musical excellence, creating an instrument that honours the past whilst embracing modern innovation. This iconic dreadnought has been the trusted companion of music legends including Hank Williams, The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Neil Young, and Bob Dylan, establishing itself as the quintessential workhorse of countless recordings and performances.
Chris Martin, Chairman and CEO of Martin Guitar, explains that the post-WWII D-28 became the centrepiece of the folk and folk rock movements during their peak in the 1950s and 1960s. The new D-28 thoughtfully combines the finest features from both his grandfather’s and father’s respective eras, blending rich heritage with Martin’s most celebrated contemporary innovations.
The enhanced D-28 features vintage appointments including open gear tuners, an aged toner top, antique white accents, and a faux tortoise pickguard, paired with a new neck profile that provides modern comfort and playability. Martin has incorporated forward-shifted bracing to allow greater top vibration, whilst maintaining the classic Sitka spruce top and East Indian rosewood back and sides construction. With its Modified Low Oval neck shape, high performance taper, and 25.4” scale length, this legendary guitar has been artfully refined for today’s discerning musicians.
