Developed alongside Ahmir 'Questlove' Thompson, this compact four-piece drum configuration from Ludwig addresses the space constraints faced by apartment dwellers and street performers without compromising sonic output. The shell pack centres around a 14x16" bass drum positioned on a riser for optimal reach, paired with a 7x10" tom and 13x13" floor tom that maintain full–size tonal character in a footprint designed for cramped stages and easy transport. A matching 5x14" wood snare drum completes the setup, delivering the focused attack required for cutting through live mix situations.
Each drum features a 7–ply hardwood shell construction that balances low–end kick response with defined midrange presence across the toms and snare. Bearing edges are cut to a 45–degree angle within 1/16" of the outer rim, then hand–sanded to create the flat seating surface essential for consistent head response. The reduced dimensions make the kit practical for taxi transport between gigs whilst the shell thickness and edge profiling maintain the projection and sustain characteristics expected from Ludwig's professional drum lines.
