The Ludwig Black Beauty stands as the crown jewel of snare drums, earning Ludwig its reputation as "The Most Famous Name On Drums" through decades of legendary performance. This iconic 14x6.5" snare drum features a hammered shell with Imperial lugs, representing a true American original that has shaped the sound of countless recordings and performances worldwide.

Crafted from a single sheet of brass that is machine drawn into a seamless beaded shell, the Black Beauty’s manufacturing process is both unique and exceptionally demanding. Due to these complex production requirements, Ludwig USA can only produce a very limited number of these instruments each year, making each Black Beauty a prized addition to any drummer’s collection.

The drum’s distinctive warm, round metallic tone has been frequently imitated throughout the industry, yet never successfully duplicated. Key specifications include a 1.2mm seamless brass shell with black nickel plating, 2.3mm steel triple flanged hoops, P88AC throw off, P35P butt plate, and comes fitted with Ludwig Weather Master medium coated batter head and clear snare side head, all supported by 10 precision lugs.
