Ludwig Black Beauty 14 x 6.5 Brass Tube Lug Snare Drum

Ludwig's Black Beauty snare drums have earned their reputation through decades of studio and stage work, and this 6.5–inch model in 14–inch diameter carries that legacy forward. The brass tube lug construction defines the instrument's character—a design choice that affects both tone and build quality. At this specification and price point, the Black Beauty sits among Ludwig's premium offerings, targeting drummers who value heritage engineering and measurable tonal properties over trend-driven alternatives.

The 6.5–inch depth positions this drum between standard and deeper configurations, affecting the harmonic response and sustain available to the player. Brass tube lugs provide structural rigidity whilst shaping how the shell resonates; they're a material and engineering decision that influences attack and decay characteristics. The 14–inch diameter remains the industry standard for snare work across rock, pop, jazz, and session playing contexts. Shell composition, bearing edge geometry, and lug mass all interact to shape the frequencies the drum produces—factors that justify the $2,399 investment for drummers building serious kits.
