The Clarion stands as a testament to vintage-inspired engineering, combining the warmth of classic FET condenser design with carefully crafted modern enhancements. This custom-built studio microphone excels across diverse applications, capturing vocals with faithful presence, kick drums with rich detail, and bass guitar with remarkable depth and dimension.
At its heart lies Lauten’s bespoke 35mm twin diaphragm capsule, engineered to produce a sultry vintage character enhanced with just the right amount of top-end air. The microphone’s versatility extends through its three-position gain switch, offering +10dB for quiet sources and consumer interfaces, -10dB for high-end preamp saturation or loud sources, and a neutral 0dB default setting.
Multiple polar pattern selections significantly shape the microphone’s sonic character and application. Cardioid mode focuses attention directly forward, making it ideal for vocals and bass, while Figure-8 and Omnidirectional patterns capture room ambience and off-axis instrumentation for more natural recordings of acoustic guitars, piano, and drums.
The signal path features hand-populated, high-resolution polypropylene capacitors, a US-made low-noise FET, and a custom-wound output transformer that adds the final sonic signature. Housed in a hand-polished solid brass enclosure with durable ceramic coating that’s oven-cured before assembly, each Clarion undergoes thorough burn-in and testing to ensure consistent, professional performance.
