At the heart of the i3 lies nearly 800 meticulously crafted instrument sounds, including a complete GM2 sound set for flawless General MIDI compatibility, plus 59 custom drum kits. The high–fidelity PCM sound engine provides 64 voices of polyphony, while dual stereo effect processors — each offering 173 variations — add depth and expression to your performances. The instrument operates through two distinct systems: Sound Sets for real–time keyboard playing (supporting up to four sounds simultaneously with layering and split capabilities) and Style Performance Sets for backing accompaniment.

With 270 Styles available, each containing four related Performance Set options, the i3 creates comprehensive backing tracks using up to eight parts that follow your chord changes and voice leading. Individual parts can be instantly selected, muted, or volume–adjusted, while the eight Chord Buttons provide ready–made chord suggestions to maintain creative momentum. Each Style includes four rhythmic variations, count–in, break, intro, and ending sections, all enhanced by independent stereo effect processing.

The built–in sequencer functions as both a traditional 16–track linear recorder and an innovative Backing Sequencer that captures all Style and Sound Set parts in a single pass. What sets the i3 apart is its Performance Recording mode, which captures entire performances as audio data and exports them as .WAV files at 44.1 kHz, while completed projects can also be exported as MIDI data files for further editing and production work.
