Kala's Revelator Night Owl Tenor represents a departure from conventional ukulele architecture, drawing on UK luthier Pete Howlett's original slim–body concept. This electro–acoustic model achieves full–bodied acoustic projection without sacrificing playability or comfort. The design philosophy centres on maximising top resonance through minimal bracing, allowing string energy to drive the solid acacia playing surface into clear, articulate tone with unexpected volume and sustain.
Construction details reveal the engineering at work: a solid acacia top paired with okoume body and neck, bone nut and saddle, and rosewood fingerboard spanning 22 frets. The florentine cutaway and bevelled body edges accommodate both strumming and fingerstyle approaches. A passive piezo pickup feeds into a transparent signal chain, whilst the strategically positioned Night Owl sound hole sits nearest the player's ear for immediate tonal feedback. Black open–gear tuners and chrome strap button round out hardware; Aquila Nylgut strings in tenor low–G configuration come factory–installed.
The compact form factor makes this tenor practical for travelling musicians and studio sessions where space or portability matters. Included deluxe padded gig bag provides adequate protection for gigging or transport. Rosewood fingerboard and white mother–of–pearl headstock inlay reflect considered aesthetic detail without compromising functional design.
