The JBL 708P stands as a powerhouse reference monitor that redefines what's possible in critical audio production environments. This self-powered studio monitor combines patent-pending driver technologies with JBL's acclaimed Image Control Waveguide to achieve extraordinary output levels, stunning detail reproduction, and remarkable accuracy across diverse room acoustics. Purpose-built for music recording, film post-production, and broadcast applications, the 708P provides several times the output of comparable studio monitors whilst maintaining exceptional dynamic range and extended working distances.
At the heart of the 708P lies innovative driver technology that sets new performance benchmarks. The 2409H high-frequency compression driver features a revolutionary low-mass annular diaphragm that produces smooth response extending beyond 36 kHz with minimal distortion. Meanwhile, the 728G low-frequency transducer utilises JBL's patented Differential Drive technology to reduce power compression, ensuring sustained output and linear low-frequency performance below 35 Hz. These proprietary drivers enable the 708P to generate two to three times the output of existing studio monitors in its class.
The monitor incorporates JBL's Image Control Waveguide technology, first introduced in the acclaimed M2 Master Reference Monitor, which creates an acoustically seamless transition between drivers. This design ensures accurate imaging and detailed soundstage reproduction across the complete frequency spectrum, whilst providing smooth on- and off-axis response that maintains consistency regardless of listening position. A dual 250W amplification system powers each driver independently, optimising performance for high-output applications and extended listening distances ideal for post-production and mastering environments.
Beyond its exceptional acoustic design, the 708P offers comprehensive room compensation capabilities including twelve bands of Room EQ and eight bands of User EQ for customised response curves such as X-Curve implementation and screen-loss compensation. Digital delay functions allow virtual speaker alignment relative to listening positions, with additional AV synchronisation delay available to compensate for video display latency, making the 708P a versatile solution for modern production facilities.
