From a 9–year–old apprentice in Istanbul's only cymbal factory to a global legacy spanning over eight decades, Agop Tomurcuk's remarkable journey began in 1941 in the Samatya neighbourhood. Following his older brothers Oksant and Garbis into the ancient craft of cymbal–smithing, Agop's dedication to the art has created instruments that now resonate on stages and in studios across the world.
The Istanbul Agop Traditional Jazz Series represents both a tribute to this rich heritage and a thoroughly modern approach to cymbal design. These instruments excel across a broad dynamic spectrum, performing equally well with intimate acoustic trios or alongside electric and electronic setups. The 22" and 20" rides produce clear, consistent stick definition while maintaining that signature dark, musical wash that can shift from subtle undertones to explosive presence.
Complementing the rides, the 14" Hi Hats deliver a crisp, pronounced chick sound whilst maintaining perfect balance and musicality when played with sticks. Originally conceived for jazz applications, these cymbals prove their versatility across virtually any musical style, offering exceptional responsiveness that strengthens the connection between musician and instrument in both live and studio environments.
